Zermatt is a great location to take a baby or toddler (or both, if you’re as crazy as we are). It’s relaxed, car-less, walkable, easy to navigate, and offers plenty of accessible fun adventures for all ages. I have two recommendations for the best family-friendly places to stay in Zermatt (with Matterhorn views). They are both easy to get to and baby-friendly, equipped with highchairs, cribs, etc.
Zermatt’s authentic Swiss charm, plethora of activities, and delicious restaurants will tempt you to go back again and again. We went twice in three years and can’t wait for our third visit.

On our first trip, we stayed at the Matterhorn Focus hotel, a chic and cozy wellness hotel near the top of the Matterhorn-side of Zermatt. As you step foot into your room, prepare to be blown away by the mountain views through the floor to ceiling windows, and the Matterhorn from the balcony.
Most Zermatt hotels include easy transportation to and from the train station in their private electric shuttle.
What a funny way to start our journey through Zermatt!
Ohhh, but it wasn’t long before that concerned toddler in the hotel shuttle began to feel right at home. I blame Matterhorn Focus for our obsession with upscale hotels. Do you see what they started?
My son and I felt like royalty as we devoured tiny treats and enjoyed afternoon beverages in the comfort of our robes at the complimentary afternoon tea. It had become our new holiday tradition!
That boy was happy as a clam putting his feet in the spa with me. I thought I’d get dagger looks from the other spa-goers, but they were getting a kick out of his joyful laugh just as much as I was.
I’m still not sure how I feel about the hotel’s bittersweet location. It sits upon a hill near the top of town, so we were spoiled with views of the Matterhorn from our balcony.
But waking up to the sounds of a gondola lift ever so “conveniently” located right outside of our window wasn’t exactly a cure for jetlag. Or was it? I guess it got us up and moving. I thought the close access to the gondola would be convenient but later realized that ride up the mountain was out of our budget at the time. Switzerland is remarkably beautiful, but you definitely pay the price for it.
Matterhorn Focus set the bar high with their welcome drink, complimentary afternoon snacks, friendly service and unforgettable buffet breakfast. Going to breakfast was an event in itself. So yummy with choices galore! You’ll surely find something satisfying for even the pickiest of toddlers.
We booked the studio suite, which is one large room, but they also have family suites with a separate bedroom. They allow extra cribs and beds for free up to age 8. Sharing a large room with an 18-month old was fine, but since then our family has grown.
Despite the hotel checking off all the boxes and then some, I think when we go back to Zermatt, we’d stay somewhere with more space to accommodate our larger family. Our second visit to Zermatt we could really spread out and relax at Casa della Luce Apartments on the other side of town.
And you can’t beat the price for the Casa della Luce’s 1,300 square foot, 3-bedroom apartment.
Elle loved putting her crawling knee pads to good use and exploring our “hotel room”. I think crawling up and down those long hallways finally helped her adjust to the time change. She slept much better those nights.
Throw in the grassy backyard for the kids to play, baby-friendly amenities like a high-chair and crib, and the terrace with a ‘view’ (glimpse) of the Matterhorn, and you’ve got yourself a deal you can’t pass up.
You won’t have the free hotel shuttle, but it’s within walking distance to the train station. There are also plenty of taxis if you don’t want to scream “I’m a tourist” and drag your luggage a few blocks.
The nearby market Denner was conveniently on the walk from the station to the apartment. Make up for Switzerland prices by stocking up for breakfast and lunch, then getting takeout for dinner from one of the amazing restaurants in town.
The apartment felt very safe, quiet and well-managed. We slept like babies and then woke up to magically heated floors! I was also loving the heated towel racks for drying our laundry. Beware if you have little ones because those can get hot!
