Zermatt is a car-free town in the Swiss Alps that sits at the base of the Matterhorn. We took our son there when he was 21 months old, and we loved it so much that we had to go back this year and share it with our newest little traveler. If mountain villages and adventures are your thing, then let my posts below guide you on how to plan a once in a lifetime trip to Zermatt, Switzerland.

What I love most about the charming village is its walkability. Stroll the main street lined with shops, restaurants and bakeries. Wander down a side-street and gaze up at rustic Swiss balconies filled with beautiful flower beds.

The magic of Zermatt does not come cheap, though. It’s in Switzerland, so no surprise. But it is totally worth it.

It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk from the further edges of town to the center. Or you can catch a ride in an electric taxi if you want to save your legs for some hiking adventures.

Hop on a gondola or cogwheel train to reach the heavenly mountaintops where you’ll capture unforgettable views of the Matterhorn on a clear day.

If you’re still intrigued, check out my posts below to plan a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip to Zermatt.

Or in our case, twice-in-a-lifetime.

Check back soon for my detailed review of the apartment hotel we stayed in. A three-bedroom apartment walking distance from the train station at a great price. You can’t beat that for family travel, especially in Switzerland! You can read about the apartment and reviews on Expedia, which is what I used to book our fabulous stay.
