Giftin’ for Road Trippin’

For those craving an American road trip, this looks like a goodie:

Gift these to your favorite road trip buddy. These kept me and mine entertained on our last road trip to Utah. Just skip the boring, cheesy ones.

Get in some good laughs on your next driving adventure with a parents vs kids joke competition, created by a fun-spirited, traveling family with disabilities. Jennifer Allen, the author, will donate 50% of proceeds to help bring a smile to hospitalized children.

The book gives my husband’s “dad jokes” a run for their money. Hehe. My five year old loves choosing this for his bedtime story!

It’s no wonder this book is the #1 children’s book in the US. Get them excited for your next trip, and hopefully learn a thing or two.

Ride-On Suitcases

You could always have your kid jump on and get a free ride on your wheelie suitcase, but if they prefer their own little cute “unicorn” or “fire truck”, then these are perfect. Even more perfect at $10 off right now:

This ride-on suitcase might be worth the investment, as it comes with an inflatable bed for the airplane!! A soundly sleeping toddler on a long-haul flight… you can’t put a price on that.

Travel Backpack

Carry-on the whole fam’s electronics and other necessities with a sleek anti-theft backpack, with huge discounts on both of these, either 17″ or 15″.

Don’t forget one for the kids’ toys, snacks and tablets. This one has a leash if you need to keep your little one close in busy airports:

Or check out these cute patterns, from airplanes to construction trucks to mermaids, they have it all:

Or even better…encourage them to carry their own suitcase. This backpack turns into a “trolley bag” or rolling carry on.

Electronics

How did I watch three movies on our last 12-hour flight, you ask? Ok, maybe you didn’t ask, but I’ll tell ya anyway… the kids and their tablets! We like the 8″ for the storage and screen size. Any bigger would just be too bulky for travel, IMO.

Our two-year-old wears these around the house for fun.

Jammin’ while vacuuming. Get it from her mama?

Need I say more?

Once you have some breathing room, you’ll need your own tablet of course. If you plan on watching your own downloads, you’ll want the 32 gig, at least.

If you’re like us and bring your watches and tablets, you can never find enough outlets in a hotel room. Be more prepared with a travel power strip:

Accessories

If you plan on using your phone for you (or young toddler), then this might be helpful. God knows we need all the arms we can get when handling a toddler on a plane.

This looks so cute, I just had to add it. Personally, there isn’t much jewelry making it into the suitcase for the last four years, and probably for another year, or at least until we are out of the “baby” phase. My ear lobes learned the hard way on our first Europe trip with a 6-month-old.

Our goal next trip is to have only carry-on’s, so I might give these compression packing cubes a try. Grab a different style for each child to stay extra organized.

These have some of the best reviews on Amazon.

Or go with traditional, clear compression bags to save space. No more waiting in line at Baggage Claim?!?!

Keep all those devices and chargers organized with one of these stylish, compact bags:

Kids’ Travel Books

After quickly reading the synopsis, I want this book. What fantastic finds around the world, “…paddle through eerie glowworm caves in New Zealand…swing off the end of the world in Ecuador.”

For the adventurous kid in all of us…

This classic is one of our all-time favorite books to read. I”d like to believe it’s inspired wanderlust in our 5-year-old since we started reading it 4 years ago.

Baby and Toddler Gear

Our Summer Infant travel umbrella stroller is our pride and joy, after lugging it over cobblestone, dirt, you name it, in over 9 different countries, ole’ Betsy has held up just fine. We hang backpacks and suitcases on it, and it’s still going strong after five years. Lie flat (or nearly) is crucial when with sleep toddlers!

This looks like a steal with all its bell and whistles from lie flat to claiming it fits in all overhead bins (verified by reviewers although I’d be cautious as it doesn’t quite meet all carry-on size restrictions). If not, check at the gate!

I’m strongly considering this for our next flight. Car seats are always recommended on planes for safety. But if you choose not to take one, this would be a nice, restful option for a red-eye. Many airlines don’t allow them, just a heads up. But that’s where Amazon saves you with free returns.

An extra backpack just for travel is great to keep packed and guaranteed to get dirty sooner. Keep your day in day out one looking nice. Opt for giant discount on the first one (65% off!), versus super cute on the second.

Or our go-to indestructible, life-time guaranteed bag from BagNation. Add the $25 coupon and it’s worth it if you plan to travel a lot.

Trying to figure out how to lug around or check travel car seats? Well, two of them plus diapers and boots will fit into this backpack. Personal experience? No comment. (Just a heads up it is recommended to check car seats in their original box to keep the warranty valid and protect the seat).

Travel size white noise. Thank me later.

“Busy” Activities

You can’t go wrong with enough travel-size activities for the little ones. I’d rather be prepared!

Our kids love magic water books and I love them because they are mess free and easy for any age. Don’t forget to empty the water pen before throwing it back into your backpack.

Stickers and reusable stickers will also burn some time. Forget to bring paper on the flight? Use the window or napkin, depending on if they are reusable or not.

Our toddlers have fought over these suction toys. They’re even great for baths. Maybe get an egg for each kid if you want to avoid the screams. Or opt for the spinner toys to keep toddlers mesmerized on the plane.

Actually, any fine motor challenge will keep your little one busy, hence the name, “busy board”. These are easy to grab and attach to the stroller or diaper bag.

Want to avoid screen time? This writing tablet is perfect for traveling artists in the making.

Keep an eye out for my next travel shirt to be released. Profits will go toward helping a family with disabilities to travel more easily. Unfortunately, the shirt may not arrive in time for the holidays. But happy new travel year gift???
